We use only high quality spandex fabrics, selected to be compatible with the Spandexwear patterns and ultimately provide the best spandex garment possible. Most fabrics are Nylon/spandex or Poly/spandex.
The "PVC" coated spandex actually contains
NO PVC. The coating is made of polyurethane, a much safer material. Every garment is labeled with fiber content and washing instructions.
We do our best to
publish accurate photos of each fabric. However, every monitor is different and
it's impossible for each person to see each scan exactly as it is supposed to
look like for real. For this reason, we literally beg our customers to order free swatches before spending the money
to have us make you a special garment. If you order a garment without first
ordering a Swatch, we will not be sympathetic to any complaints
regarding fabric color, shade, texture, stretch, or any other such subject. If
there is any doubt in your mind, please order a Free Swatch Pak of fabric
samples before placing a garment order. Please!
People often ask if they can send in a favorite fabric to have us make a
garment with. While we are certainly willing to do this, and you are welcome to
send us a sample of your fabric for approval, in the majority of cases, we have
to say no. The Seammistress doesn't use "off the shelf" garment
patterns- each of her pattern designs is based on using complex mathematical
formulae which use both Body Measurements AND the fabric's Stretch Factor. Unless
the fabric that you want to send us happens to have a Stretch Factor identical
to our stock fabrics, the Seammistress has to custom-design a specific pattern
for you and your fabric.
All fabrics are available for by-the-yard sales. There is a 1-yard minimum
for any fabric. Most fabrics are 58- 60" wide. Coated fabrics such as the PVC and Metallic Foils have a usable width of about 54". Fabric orders ship asap- usually in 1 - 2 business days. Please contact me if you have questions about a specific fabric.
Lycra vs spandex-
Spandex is a generic term that most people understand to be
synthetic stretchy fabric. LYCRAŽ is a registered tradename owned by
DuPont/Invista for their specific brand of spandex fibers and fabrics. Over the
years, the general population has come to use the words LYCRAŽ and
spandex interchangably.
Unless specifically noted otherwise, all fabric references and
photos in this website are of generic spandex fabrics.
